Ai Hin, a six year old giant panda, living at the Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Centre in China, has been feigning pregnancy for over two months. As a pregnant giant panda there are special amenities provided – including air-conditioning, around-the-clock care and a serious supply of buns, fruit and bamboo. So it is possible Ai Hin was manipulating the system. However giant pandas have a complicated biology and phantom pregnancies are quite common. Determining pregnancy is quite difficult as a giant panda foetus is actually quite small and difficult to locate with an ultrasound scan.
